PIGMENTED LESIONS

S

un spots (Age spots, Liver spots), also known as Lentigines, are flat, brown discolourations of the skin which usually occur on the back of your hands, neck, face and body. While they are often considered a sign of ageing they are mainly a result of excessive exposure to the sun and it’s ultraviolet rays, and most adults by their early 30′s, do have them. Preventative measures should always be taken by using high SPF sunscreen and avoiding the sun when possible. Of course preventative measures won’t correct the damage already done but will help to keep new damage to a minimum.

Along with sun exposed discolourations Women can also acquire unwanted pigmented lesions from the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy or birth control pills, especially on the upper chest and face.

There used to be little you could do about these pigmented lesions. But today laser and IPL technology has revolutionized treatment, allowing many of these skin discolourations to be virtually erased, very efficiently, safely, and most importantly, non-surgically.

All it takes is a few sessions:
Generally 15 minutes in duration, to provide very effective results, with no down time from your busy schedule.

How it all Works:

The light from the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system is absorbed by the pigment in the skin, which is subsequently lightened or destroyed, leaving the skin looking uniform in color and texture. Most patients tolerate the treatment very well.   After treatment, the area may feel similar to a mild sunburn. Within 1 to 24 hours, discomfort disappears. Results are seen within 2 to 30 days, depending on the lesion and exact type of laser used.
