IPL – Photorejuvenation treatments has the following benefits:
- Pigmented lesions
- Sun damaged skin
- Small surface vascular lesions
- Rosacea features
What is IPL – Photorejuvenation
Sun spots (Age spots, Liver spots), also known as Lentigines, are flat, brown discolourations of the skin which usually occur on the back of your hands, neck, face and body. While they are often considered a sign of aging they are mainly a result of excessive exposure to the sun and it’s ultraviolet rays. Along with sun exposed discolourations, women can also acquire unwanted pigmented lesions from the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy or birth control pills, especially on the upper chest and face.
In the past, little was available to combat these pigmented lesions. But today laser and IPL technology has revolutionized treatment, allowing many of these skin discolourations to be virtually erased, very efficiently, safely, and most importantly, non-surgically.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photorejuvenation has many benefits which makes it one of our most popular treatments at Skin2. It gives an instant boost to the skin. The skin looks more vibrant, radiant, and rejuvenated. The three main targets are reds, browns, and collagen.
Light-based treatments such as IPL target pigmented and vascular lesions, redness, and damaged skin cells without harming surrounding tissues. This is because the darker pigments of the skin absorb the energy and are damaged, eventually fading away. The procedure also triggers new collagen growth and the development of new skin cells.
How it Works
The Icon MaxG™ Optimized Light Handpiece from Cynosure is a major asset for many different forms of skin rejuvenation at the Skin2 medical spa in the heart of Vancouver. We use the system to treat a range of skin conditions without damaging surrounding skin tissue.
The Icon MaxG™ offers superior closure of the larger, deeper facial vessels with a unique combination of Dynamic Spectrum ShiftingSM and dual-band filters. And for treatment safety and best results, at Skin2 we use the Skintel Melanin index Reader for all our Photorejuvenation sessions.
The light from the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system is absorbed by the pigment in the skin, which is subsequently lightened or destroyed, leaving the skin looking uniform in color and texture.
The Skintel™ Melanin Reader™ provides an additional element of treatment confidence by determining the average melanin density of skin, in a quantitative manner, prior to energy-based aesthetic treatment – such as hair removal or skin renewal.
Understanding how much melanin is in the skin helps the aesthetic professional to better choose the treatment settings on Palomar systems for enhanced treatment outcomes, while minimizing risk of over treatment.

What to Expect
All it takes is a few sessions, and generally each session is approximately 15 minutes in duration. You will receive very effective results in this time frame, with no down time from your busy schedule. After the treatment, the area may feel similar to a mild sunburn. Within 1 to 24 hours, discomfort disappears, and results can be seen anywhere from two to 30 days.
We customize each treatment plan to meet the needs of our patients. Most pigmented lesions require two or three treatments before they fade completely. Many patients with uneven or spotty pigmentation or broken capillaries will require only a single treatment. Rosacea usually requires ongoing treatment until the condition is completely resolved. Patients with fair skin usually need fewer treatments.
