What are Medical Facials and Peels?
Medical Facials and Peels is an accelerated form of exfoliation, induced by a chemical agent, used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to peel off the top layers and allows new skin to regenerate. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin, and may also be more even in colour.
And these Medical Facials and Peels are a popular cosmetic procedure in Vancouver, a quick, simple, and safe procedure with nice results and minimal down time. And combined with other skin-care ingredients, help to slough off the uppermost layer of dead skin cells. As we age and over the years of exposure to the sun and environmental damage our skin looses its tone, texture and radiance. With a series of chemical peels you can improve your skin’s complexion giving you back a healthy glow.
How it Works
Medical Facials and Peels are highly effective professional blended combinations of alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic & lactic acid), beta hydroxy acids (salicylic acid), Kojic acid, and Retinol. These are all perfectly customized to your specific skin condition, to produce healthier and younger looking skin!
These Medical Facials and Peels use naturally occurring AHA’s and BHA’s such as glycolic acid to exfoliate the skin. Peels work at a molecular level, sending the product into the lower layers of the skin to boost collagen while lifting off the top layer of dead and damaged cells. This creates a ‘peeling’ effect and reveals plumper, tighter, and less damaged cells underneath. Peels can be applied to any area of the face or body where improvement is desired.
The procedure may be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs. Superficial, medium, or deep chemical peels may be used to improve damaged skin. As a rule, the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery time.
Highly Customized Procedure
With professional peels, your skin care specialist is able to treat most of your skin concerns, from the very superficial and harmless to the most complex and delicate cases. And all treatments may be complemented with daily professional home care products to enhance and maintain outstanding results!
At Skin2, we design highly customized Medical Facials and Peels, offering a variety of effective solutions. Here are a few of the most effective treatments:
One of the peels we use is an AFA peel (no visible exfoliation). AFAs are the newest and unique cosmeceutical to be patented this millennium. ‘AFA’ is an acronym for Amino acid Filaggrin based Antioxidants.
Filaggrin is a protein that naturally occurs in our upper layer of our epidermis and is metabolized into several acidic moisture retaining amino acids. It is these highly moisture retaining amino acids that are used to produce the AFA peels and the AFA (home care) gels. AFAs are able to penetrate the outer skin layer and exfoliate, hydrate and anti-oxidate to make your skin feel smoother and softer, while diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. Skin tone will appear brighter and sun damage will even out.
Advantages of AFAs:
- Promote Greater Moisture Retention
- Show Visible Effects Quickly
- Are Powerful Antioxidants
- Are Effective Exfoliants
- Improve Photo Pigmentation/Sun damage
- May be used on Sensitive and Rosacea prone skin
- Are Non-photosensitizing
- Are safe to use during pregnancy
- Are safe for all skin types
AFA Clay Peel
Optimizing exfoliation and antioxidant benefits: A simple two-step procedure that will immediately create smoother, softer and younger-looking skin. A more intense peel utilizing a rare earth clay base to draw out impurities in the skin.
Secondly, a specially formulated AFA antioxidant facial peel is applied. Resulting in dramatic improvement with no downtime! Great anti-aging benefits, as well as for acne control.
Innovative Facial (Fire & Ice)
The Innovative Fire & Ice Facial, also know as the Fire and Ice “Runway Carpet” peel. This is our most popular. This intensive clinical treatment is designed to rapidly and safely resurface the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles while smoothing, softening and encouraging cellular renewal. Excellent for all skin types and ages, this facial results in a complexion that is dramatically refined, with no downtime, peeling, or other negative side effects.
The Fire and Ice Facial combines an exfoliating peel (Fire) with the use of powerful antioxidants, botanical acids, retinol and niacin to rapidly and safely resurface the skin without peeling. An antioxidant-rich mask (Ice) follows to deliver soothing aloe vera and nourishing hyaluronic acid to hydrate and restore the skin’s balance. This peel was designed to treat aging, acne and hyper-pigmentation effectively, leaving the skin feeling polished, rejuvenated and glowing.
Common Issues Treated by Medical Facials and Peels
Treatments can be applied to various areas of the face, or only specific areas of concern. This includes issues and areas such as:
- Mild to Severe Acne
- Body Acne
- Fine Lines
- Deep Wrinkles
- Textural Concerns
- Dry/Rough Skin
- Dull Skin Tone

What to Expect
During the procedure, most patients experience a warm to hot sensation that may last about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. A deeper peel may be more painful and require medication during or after the procedure.
After your Medical Facial and Peel, your skin may be pink for several hours after a treatment and you may experience some tightening of the skin, which may last for several days. Typically you may return to work right after the peel. The amount of peeling, if any, varies from person to person. You may see light to medium flaking by two or three days after the treatment. Depending on the type of peel, flaking may last up to five or six days, while some clients may experience very little peeling.
In terms of how many treatments, generally four to eight (4-8) peels are needed for optimum results, scheduled every 10-14 days or as required.
NOTE: It is important to avoid overexposure to the sun immediately after a chemical peel since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to injury.
How many peels will I need?
This is variable and depends on your skin condition and skin type. All peels are customized to each individual, but all are managed using a step-up approach, which begins at the superficial layer with gradual increases to enable the skin to safely and effectively reach a Level 3 peel, if required. In general 4-8 peels are needed for optimum results, scheduled every 10-14 days or as required. Please note: Chemical peels are not effective for removal of medium or deep acne scars and will not clear skin from acne, if used as a stand-alone procedure.
What areas can be treated with a Chemical Peel?
Peels can be applied to the entire face or individual areas that require treatment, such as sun damage or to control acne.
How do you know what chemical peel is the right one for you?
Chemical peels are used based on their purpose and strength. We will assess your skin prior to your treatment to choose the most suitable option for your skin type and condition.
Contraindications for Chemical Peels
Peels are not recommended for people with very sensitive skin, active cold sores, undiagnosed lesions, diabetes, auto-immune disorders, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or lupus.
